From Gartner:
Decision automation, decision augmentation and decision support represent the degrees to which AI and analytics can be deployed to pursue faster, more consistent, more adaptable and higher-quality decisions at scale.
The differences lie in the analytics techniques used at various points in the decision process, and who (or what) ultimately makes the decision:
- Decision automation. The system makes the decision using prescriptive analytics or predictive analytics. Its benefits include speed, scalability and consistency of decision making.
- Decision augmentation. The system recommends a decision, or multiple decision alternatives, to human actors using prescriptive or predictive analytics. Its benefits lie in the synergy between human knowledge and the capability of AI to rapidly analyze high volumes of data and to deal with complexity.
- Decision support. Human employees make the decision, supported by descriptive, diagnostic or predictive analytics. Its main benefit lies in the combined application of data-driven insights and human knowledge, expertise and common sense, including “gut feel” and emotions.

Artificial intelligence suffers from its hype in that it’s built on problematic assumptions about what AI can and cannot do. Our practice shows us that it is possible to design human-centric AI-based system using an augmented approach that can outperform … Continue reading

Reply with your comments.Stakeholders could collaborate to seek a “Backhaul” (connection) to connect a local community run mesh network in the to the Internet. Here is a possible source: “Ann Arbor SPARK was recently awarded more than $2 million in federal funding to build an underground fiber optic cable between downtown Ann Arbor and downtown Ypsilanti.” Is your community interested in better, faster, cheaper, Internet? Could the resulting improvement in #DigitalEquity make strides towards self-sufficiency in the areas of employment, education, and health/wellness?

Detroit has named Christine Burkette as the city’s new digital equity director. Burkette, a native of Detroit, comes to the role with a mix of experience in the public and private sectors. She is the founder of the IT firm Promising Integrations Consulting Firm Inc., which the city noted in its press release is to date the only female- and Black-owned IT consulting firm in all of Michigan. Burkette also served as the CIO for Detroit Public Schools from 2017 to 2018. She has also done tech work with General Motors. The city’s announcement said that Burkette will work with the Detroit City Council to create a digital equity strategy that is greatly informed by input from the city’s residents, pushed forward by a data-driven approach. She plans to continue partnering with Connect 313 on the work, as well as with local industry and philanthropic leaders.

Many of their graduates are more successful than people getting computer science degrees from prestigious universities, whose departments lag behind the quick pace of industry. We should find out if there is anything like General Assembly in the Chicago area. My nephew, Ryan Salerno, first trained with them, and then became a trainer. Later, he partnered with people he met at General Assembly, started his own business, launched a product with sales to major banks, and today has investors. He is my sister’s son, and his father is Irish and Italian. His grandfather, Ralph Salerno, was a police expert on the mafia, testified before the Warren Commission (Kennedy’s assassination) and was a consultant for several Hollywood movies. I will be contacting my nephew to see if he has any suggestions.

If there are other differences other than the columns we have added, for whether or not the individual stakeholder (linked to definition) is an influencer, or a decision maker, then we should consider creating a taxonomy to assign different categories, one or more, to each stakeholder. Thus, I have added an additional column for categories. In WordPress, taxonomies are implemented by using categories and tags. There are multiple places, besides posts, where we will be using categories and/or tags inside our platform.
